One Hand Tied Behind Your Back

Life is full of limitations. It's like we have to meet it with one hand tied behind our backs.

Perhaps our greatest challenge is to acknowledge and love those limitations while perfecting our ability to work within them. Not seeking it from others. Not even by chasing our desires to prove how good we are or asserting our wills to hedge the uncertainty they inherently bring.

Maybe once we've perfected that art, we'll be allowed to untie the other hand.

Feel the Presence

Can you feel the Presence? It's in you, and all around you. Just like the Force of Star Wars fame.

You are the Source of that Presence. Know that you are sending it forth into the world. It is from your vibration that all within your sphere is created.

Know it. Feel it. Be it.

So it is.

Be What You Are

So many times in life we try to be what others want us to be. Or worse, we prop ourselves up behind self-images made up of the different things we do. Like I used to say I'm a lawyer, because I am. But those things we do, and the labels attached to them, are not us. And they do a darn poor job of describing who and what we really are.

Over these last years those descriptions of me were somewhat loosened as I delved more and more into my own nature, and wrote about all the things I found. But in their place I took on new labels. You know, spiritual teacher, author, speaker. But these are no more descriptive of me than lawyer was.

Sure, I do all those things. Just as you do all the things in your life. But they aren't me, any more than the hats you wear are you.

So who am I?

I am that unique package of me that I bring to the world. With all of its blemishes, and all of its wonderful qualities. I can't run away from any of it, or emphasize one part over another. The mind of the lawyer is the same mind of the writer and teacher and husband and father who loves to play with his kids. In fact, it is so hard to describe myself that I won't even try.

I simply am, learning about me and expressing myself through my creativity, contemplation, and connection with the life in and around me. In short, I am John. Nothing more can be said.

Who are you?

The Spirituality of Money

Money isn't the root of all evil. But then, many people think it is. And if they believe it, it probably is. At least to them. I hope you're not one of them.

Money is a medium that allows us to exchange value. But to get money, first we have to create value. We've got to give someone else what they want or need. In other words, they've got a hunger for something, and it's our job to feed it.

You've got a hunger, too. God is using money as a way to feed your hunger. Maybe your desires are running wild, and you hunger for more, more, more. Maybe it's your fears, and money is simply allowing you to confront them one more time. Maybe it's your refusal to consider the source of your own existence, so money is being cut off so you'll have to face whether you will still be here tomorrow.

There is much that money can teach you about yourself. And when you finally learn it, God will reward you in spades. Unless, of course, you think ignorance is bliss.
